A day at the farm

And by "a day", I mean "a morning". And my "morning", I mean we lasted about 30 minutes before Lill wanted to head straight to the beer garden for a snow cone.

With Ray closer to 1.5 than 1 year old, it's inevitable that he'll give up his morning nap soon. While that's disappointing for a number of reasons, the definite upside is not having one or both of us stuck at home in the morning so that he can catch some zzzzz's. With the beautiful weather forecast this past weekend, we decided to forgo his regularly scheduled morning nap and all head to Grant's Farm. For those of you that have never been, it's like a much smaller and less intimidating version of the zoo, closer to out house, with some up-close-and-personal opportunities AND there's a beer garden on your way out where adults are allotted 2 free beers each and kids can snack and frolic/dance. What better way to celebrate surviving a morning with kids on a hot day than with two iced cold brews.

The gift that keeps on giving...

As cheesy as it sounds, being a mom is the gift that keeps on giving. Even with the sleepless nights, the tantrums, countless trips to the doctor and the intruding gray hairs, the joy my heart is filled with on a daily basis makes me forget about all that other stuff. It really is the best job in the world. All I wanted for Mother's Day was to spend the day with the my loves that made me a mommy. Oh, and ridiculously good coffee (sometimes you need more than a joy filled heart overcome the sleepiness!). They surprised me with a coffee maker with all the bells and whistles as well as some sweet notes/art work from Lill. The questions she answered about me were quite hilarious and I can't wait to see how the answers evolve from time to time.

I also get a kid-free weekend away in Nashville next weekend with my best girl friends. Mom's gone wild!! And by mom's gone wild, I just might sleep past 7am, wear high heels and stay up past midnight! I just might.
